Resident Evil 7: biohazard
Despite selling millions of copies, the reception to Resident Evil 6 was icy at best. Fans were disappointed with the shift away from survival horror and the atrocious writing and pacing. While Capcom would engage with a more traditional formula in Resident Evil Revelations 2, it actually had something bigger up its sleeve – a brand new Resident Evil, one that was in first-person.
Not only that but it would begin a new story with a new protagonist while seeking to return to the survival horror approach that fans loved. Resident Evil 2 Remake would follow and become a larger success but in terms of righting the ship and returning to what made the franchise so great, Resident Evil 7: biohazard was a success. It sold over 10 million copies as of October 2021 and was followed by Resident Evil Village, an even bigger hit that skillfully blended survival horror with a more action-heavy approach.
