Divinity: Original Sin
Many were unaware of Larian Studios in its early years, mostly due to how niche the Divinity series had been. Following the launch of Divinity: Dragon Commander, the studio turned to Kickstarter to crowd-fund its next RPG – Divinity: Original Sin, a title that promised unprecedented choice. Following its funding, there was a lot of pressure to deliver – it would end up costing three times the amount to develop than what the studio had on hand (which would have led to its bankruptcy if it failed).
Thankfully, it didn’t and would become Larian’s fastest-selling title ever. The developer would go on to crowd-fund Divinity: Original Sin 2 which is still regarded as one of the finest RPGs ever made. It’s currently working on Baldur’s Gate 3, its biggest game yet with a team of 400 developers.
