Pokemon Sword and Shield had been at the centre of a controversy for weeks before they even launched- and while post-launch criticism for things such as its unambitious and unpolished nature are definitely not without merit, the thing that kicked the whole controversy off was, frankly, a little ridiculous. Game Freak announced that Sword and Shield would not have every single Pokemon ever made, and all hell broke lose. As part of a severe and vitriolic backlash, developers were criticized harshly, and at times even harassed.
