The Last of Us Part 1
Easily one of the saddest starts to a video game, The Last of Us 1′s brutal opening section sets the right tone for what’s to follow. The Cordyceps virus has broken loose, turning people into mindless zombies and all hell breaks loose in the middle of the night. Players take control of Joel’s frightened daughter, Sarah, as she searches for her father inside their home. Soon after, the duo tries to make a last-ditch escape with Joel’s brother Tommy, but unfortunately – Sarah gets gunned down by a soldier on duty. It’s an emotionally packed sequence, thanks to the powerful performance of the actors. This scene is the perfect teaser for the sheer brutality that players are going to witness in The Last of Us‘ post-apocalyptic world.
