Haze
Developed by Free Radical Design, Haze was originally pitched as Sony’s “Halo Killer” which had countless fans pumped at this very prospect. The game’s development cycle was wrought with all sorts of difficulties, which became the cause of many delays. And when the game finally released, it ended up being a faint shadow of what was originally promised. Apart from a weak story that fails to fully realize its potential, Haze’s gameplay ideas were undercooked which results in an underwhelming moment-to-moment experience. And of course, many of those problems can also be found within the multiplayer component which makes that part of the experience a frustrating one as well. Haze’s unfortunate critical and commercial reception would not only be a big loss to PS3 fans, but also lead to the eventual shutting down of a studio that brought us games like TimeSplitters.
