Vanille and Fang Become Ragnarok – Final Fantasy 13

The plot of Final Fantasy 13 isn’t what one would call endearing but the relationship between Vanille and Fang is still compelling. They’re l’Cie, which means they have to fulfill a specific Focus which will grant them eternal life. Unfortunately, their purpose is to become Ragnarok, a monster that will ultimately destroy Cocoon. With Cocoon on a collision course with Gran Pulse, they take a different route, transforming into Ragnarok to halt the collision and save the people of both worlds. Everyone else awakens after their crystallization but Vanille and Fang remain in the new crystal pillar that holds Cocoon up over Gran Pulse, holding hands in eternal slumber (which, naturally, doesn’t last).
