“Empty open world” is a criticism that is often levelled at a great many games, but in the case of Shadow of the Colossus, that acts as one of its biggest strengths. Its bleak and beautiful world is stunning to look and massive enough that exploring it is a joy in and of itself. The setting is littered with beautiful landscapes and location that never fail to take your breath away, propped up not only by an impressive art style, but also some of the best technical visuals of this generation. Shadow of the Colossus was an astounding achievement back when it first launched on the PS2, and remade for the PS4, it’s just as impressive.
