A PLAGUE TALE: INNOCENCE
In an industry that’s become obsessed with multiplayer gaming or with huge open worlds full of bloat to drive up user engagement, indie French developer Asobo Studio decided to make a linear, single player, narrative-drive adventure with A Plague Tale: Innocence, and that focus, that sense of purpose, lifted the game above so many others that we’ve played this year. A Plague Tale: Innocence has the heart of an indie game with its emotional story and its memorable characters, but it also boasts the sheen and polish of a Naughty Dog blockbuster, to deliver a package that is, on the whole, surprisingly good, and won’t be easily forgotten.
