Hollow Knight’s combat excels not because of gimmicks or any spectacularly unique ideas, but purely on the back of its mechanical perfection. Each strike feels precise, each movement inch-perfect, which, of course, gels with the game’s challenging nature perfectly- because every time you fail in combat, you fail not because of the game not working the way it should, but because of a mistake you made. Excellent enemy variety, tight movement, punchy hits, and incredible boss fights come together to ensure that combat in this masterpiece always remains an absolute treat.
