Doom 3 had plenty of demons shrieking and making raucous, but it didn’t quite fit my definition of hell. It may just be me, but i really expected the game to throw at me me horde after hordes of demonic steroid eaters at me.

Doom 3 did focus on feeding the demons steroids and making them astoundingly detailed, but it lacked in trying to make the player struggle to stay alive in the face of waves of hell spawns; something which the first two games in the Doom series managed to do beautifully.
