Link’s Shadow – Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
“One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery of oneself,” as per Leonardo da Vinci and never was this more evident than in facing Link’s Shadow. Ignoring for a moment that the fight could be cheesed by crouching in the corner, the Shadow was Link’s toughest opponent up till that point. It mirrored his every move, forcing the player to really think about what they would do next. The fact that Nintendo pulled this off in 1987 with an NES title is all the more impressive.
