HARDWARE ADD-ONS
From the likes of N64 DD, Sega CD, Sega 32X, and RAM Expansion Pak to more recent examples like Wii Motion Plus, PS Move, and the Kinect, post-launch hardware add ons for consoles have almost never worked out. For starters, they’re very pricey, and that investment is almost never a good idea because of how poorly they’re supported by publishers and developers. Most games – the ones worth playing, at any rate – never utilize them, they split development resources, and they fracture the install base. Let’s not mince any words here. Hardware add ons are almost always a bad, bad idea, and the very concept needs to die out as quickly as possible.
