Killer Instinct
The Killer Instinct franchise has always served as an outlier when discussing fighting games but its games are still tons of fun, especially the 2013 sequel. Credit where it’s due, Microsoft pushed it as a major Xbox One launch exclusive – there just wasn’t enough content, even if it was a free to play title. Iron Galaxy took over development with help from Rare and co-creator Ken Lobb from Season 2 onwards.
Killer Instinct would then mature as one of the best fighting games ever made with tons of different characters, a deep combat system with cool mechanics, extensive modes for both solo and online players, and a kickass soundtrack. Sadly, after the Definitive Edition’s launch in 2017, there have been no more updates, forget any hint of a sequel. With fighting games seeing a major renaissance, Killer Instinct is long overdue for a follow-up.
