Gradius

A premiere introduction to classic side-scrolling SHMUPs in the late 80s, Gradius has had a less than kind history. The last great title was Gradius V on PS2, released in 2004 and praised for its level design and visuals. Granted, the genre wasn’t exactly booming at the time but after Gradius NEO in the same year, there wouldn’t be another game until Gradius ReBirth in 2008. And that was just a “remix” of older levels as opposed to a new experience. The wait continues but don’t worry – this isn’t the last franchise Konami will refuse to resurrect.
