While it’s clear that the PS5 is far ahead of the Xbox Series X as far as its SSD is concerned, in absolute terms, the latter is no slouch in that area either. Using DirectStorage, the console can potentially get a lot out of its solid state drive and decompression techniques. A lot of it will, of course, go on behind the scenes, which means the majority of players won’t notice (or care) what’s happening, but make no mistake- on paper, this sounds very exciting if you care to look deeply. Not only does it mean faster streaming of assets, it means more of the CPU’s power gets freed up to focus on things such as physics or loading in a higher number of assets in a single scene or environmet.
