3. Dreamcast
Having scorned their third party developers with the atrociously planned launch of the Saturn, Sega found themselves releasing the Dreamcast between console generations in a bid to start afresh. Despite their innovative hardware and good intentions, third party developer support was still lacking and the expensive price tag and consumer knowledge of the impending PS2 meant that the Dreamcast wound up costing Sega a lot of money. It eventually lead to their departure from hardware development.
