Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
It may not have the greatest open world but Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain stands out for a variety of other reasons. Aside from the plot with its strong characterization and presentation (say what you will about how incomplete the story was), the real strength of the game was its freedom. There were tons of different ways to infiltrate camps and complete missions, from rocket arms to cardboard box sliding, or just going in guns blazing. Plus there’s the ability to order companions to do things like take down helicopters and the like.
