9 Things We’d Like To See in Final Fantasy: Versus XIII

Lots of Gorgeous and Exhilarating CG Cutscenes

The thing Square excels in

Most Final Fantasy games always feature spectacular CG cutscenes. The downside of that is – the great amount of disc space used. Final Fantasy XIII was almost 38GB on the PS3, while Final Fantasy XIII-2 didn’t feature a lot and was just 7-8GB in size. Nomura had earlier confirmed that the ratio between realtime and pre-rendered cutscenes were 7:3. Let’s hope they don’t go with a lot of realtime cutscenes like Final Fantasy XIII-2, and generously fill the disc with gorgeous CG ones. After all, Square’s Visual Works Studio is one of the best in the business.

Interesting Main Characters

Army of four?

Playing as Serah and Noel in Final Fantasy XIII-2 was such a boring thing, and these characters were poorly designed and never managed to interest me in anyway. At least, Lightning was designed well, and while she didn’t quite have a good personality, controlling her never felt lame. Versus XIII cast, however, feels a lot more promising and actually is designed for adults, as you can see in the image above. Hopefully Versus XIII doesn’t contain a 10-year-old disguised as 18, or a tall burly character with a mind of a 10-year-old. So far so good.

Powerful Villains and Solid Negative Characters

Bad guy? Looks like it.

Betrayals, diabolical plans to destroy the world, or just a thorn in the main protagonist’s side, Final Fantasy villains have mostly delivered. I’d expect nothing less from Final Fantasy: Versus XIII. While we do not know anything about Versus’ villains, we do know that the plot offers a lot of opportunities for negative characters to wreak havoc.

Now, the guy in the pic above, may or may not be a villain, but he certainly looks like a guy I would love to punch in the face. The character design in the game seems so fantastic already. Hopefully the quality is maintained in the full game.
