In the midst of a complete about-turn (we refuse to call it an “Xbox One Eighty”), Microsoft recently ditched several planned DRM initiatives for its next generation Xbox One console. Originally billed to require periodic check-ins every 24 hours along with region-locking and limited used game selling and trading, Microsoft has since gone back to a more traditional console approach.

This created some hope that other changes would be in the pipeline. As Michael Pachter pointed out recently, if the Xbox One sells well enough at launch, maybe Microsoft would consider a reduction in price down the line?

Whether that actually happens or not remains to be seen, but for now, Xbox chief product officer Marc Whitten stated to CNET that the company has “no plans” to reduce the Xbox One’s price.

”We are really, really excited about the value we’re going to deliver on day one.” Pachter, for his part, also emphasized that the Xbox One was bringing more value due to the inclusion of Kinect. The Xbox One’s main competitor, the Sony PlayStation 4, will retail for $399.
