Grand Theft Auto 5: Rockstar Already Has Plans For The Next World

Rockstar, however, wants to see what people are playing when GTA Online rolls around.

Grand Theft Auto V is perhaps the most conspicuous game of the year. It’s the biggest, and will be the most successful game of 2013 – arguably ever – but it’s also skipping the next generation of consoles. This is keeping in mind that most other AAA titles like Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Watch_Dogs and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be on next gen consoles as well.

Nonetheless, Rockstar will be supporting the game even as the next generation begins to take prominence in the coming months. Speaking to CVG about the developer’s plans for GTA Online as consumers migrate to the next generation, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies stated that, “We already have plans for what the next world holds in terms of missions, new content, clothes, apartments, for the next while. But we really want to see what people are playing, and we’re putting a lot of effort into the back end, so we can keep an eye on exactly how long people are spending in deathmatches, races, and all the other modes – just to see what they’re doing.

“And if we see any peaks anywhere, then we know where to concentrate our efforts. There’s not a lot of data out there for us. There’s very few games like GTA Online – so we’ll play it by ear and see what the consumers want.”

So at the very least, even as the PS4 and Xbox One dominate consumers’ mindsets, Rockstar will be working to ensure its content measures up to the experiences of 2014. Grand Theft Auto V will be releasing on September 17th on PS3 and Xbox 360.
