Fallout 4: Should Obsidian Entertainment Return for Development?

Despite designer Chris Avellone himself stating that it’s up to Bethesda Softworks regarding whether or not Fallout 4 gets developed, it’s been a long-standing rumour for the better part of the year now. First it was rumoured that the game would be arriving exclusively for the Xbox One. Then there are rumours that it was shown behind closed doors at E3 2013. Now…well, now, pretty much anything goes and we’re not sure just when we’ll see Fallout 4.

But with the amount of experience that Obsidian Entertainment has with the franchise, should the developer return to help Bethesda Softworks on Fallout 4?

We’ve already seen the ideas the developer implemented with New Vegas and the approach to the same which took into account fan feedback. What better way to fulfill fan wishes than by having a developer on-board who has experience giving the fans what they want? Avellone’s ideas about setting the universe in different cities like New Orleans and even in Russia (Metro series be damned) also come across as fresh and original, which the sequel will need.

Or should Bethesda Softworks develop the core game by themselves and then delegate expansion duties to Obsidian like with Fallout 3? Or should both studios work jointly on the game? Or – and this is doubtful – should Obsidian take over development duties exclusively? Let us know below what you think.
