Speaking in an interview with Dengeki PlayStation, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain director Hideo Kojima revealed that there are some parts of the game that are already 100 percent complete. However, in discussing this, he reveals that the other parts still have a lot of work to go. At this point, it looks like that it may release in 2015 after all, despite Konami suggesting that the success of Ground Zeroes would influence its final release date.

Kojima also revealed that the ‘S’ in Ground Zeroes has plenty of significance. Since it affects more than one individual, such as Kaz, the title indicates the beginning of numerous changes down the line. Think of it as each character facing their own cataclysmic, “Ground Zero” moment – multiple characters equal multiple “Ground Zero” moments. Hence, Ground Zeroes. Get it?

Finally, Kojima revealed that you’ll be able to use your smartphone to display scores along with the radar and map. Originally there was doubt over whether this would be a good idea, since he didn’t want players’ attention to be divided but that seems to have been fixed. In fact, Kojima believes it will come in useful for players.

As of now, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is slated to release in early 2014 for PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360, with The Phantom Pain releasing in either 2014 or 2015.
