UK Hardware Sales: PS4 Sells £87 million at Retail Within 48 Hours

The PlayStation 4 has already earned the title of fastest selling console in UK history, according to the UKIE and Gfk Chart-Track. It bested the record set by the PlayStation Portable, which managed to sell 185,000 units in the first 48 hours of it launch.

According to MCV, the PS4 apparently earned £87 million in the UK at retail, which amounts to about 250,000 units in 48 hours. Interestingly, the Xbox One managed to sell 150,000 units within the first 48 hours of its launch. So the news that the PS4 beat the Xbox One in launch day sales for the UK appears legit enough.

The release of the PS4 in Europe also helped spur sales for PS4 versions of games such as FIFA 14 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, which ranked second and first on software sales charts respectively.
