The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter: Horror Games Don’t Look Any Better Than This

Things are looking creepy.

The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter is quite a fascinating example of modern gaming. It’s an adventure game with very little action, that still features intensely detailed visuals, and has a lot of effort paid to the development of the environment. The game is horror-ish themed, and focuses on the efforts of one detective with the supernatural ability to see fleeting past images from a crime scene to locate a boy named Ethan Carter who has mysteriously disappeared.

Developers The Astronauts have released three .GIFs which show off what we can expect to see form the game in terms of its graphical sophistication and movement mechanics. The first is a simple rocky path that the camera traverses slowly, showing off a basic environment one will encounter in-game.

Next is a night scene where the protagonist is traveling along a deserted railroad track. Deserted that is until a train materializes out of thin air and nearly runs him over. And in the third and final shot, we’ve got a thoroughly creepy graveyard.

All three shots look spectacular, and really succeed in giving off the creepy vibe that The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter is going for.
