The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Will Be PS4 Exclusive For ‘A Healthy Period’

'It certainly won't be coming to other consoles any time soon.'

Vanishing of Ethan Carter

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter looks to be one hell of an excellent game- one of the most intriguing games that is coming up, as a matter of fact, and a visual stunner too. The fact that it is being developed by an independent developer is only a further testament to just how great indie games and developers have gotten.

But the fact of the matter is, the game will be exposing itself to a limited audience- it is releasing only for the PlayStation 4 and PC, and while, yes, those are the two most popular platforms at the moment, there is still something to be said for the 12 odd million gamers who own a Wii U or an Xbox One. When asked about the likelihood of the game coming over to those platforms, however, the developer People Can Fly’s response wasn’t encouraging.

“We have seen the same thing with Outlast, that appeared on PC/PS4 first, and now is available on Xbox One as well. So I guess if your game’s profile is high enough, you can get past the parity clause gates. If it makes sense for us, we will try to get the game released on Xbox One. But honestly I have no idea if that will ever happen, and if it does, it certainly won’t be any time soon, as there’s a healthy exclusivity period for the PS4 version of Ethan Carter.”

Damn. Microsoft really needs to do something about the parity clause.

It’s not just bad news for Xbox or Nintendo owners though, as it sounds like the developer is currently focused only on the PC version, and hasn’t even started work on the PS4 version.

“We haven’t really started with PS4 yet. I mean, yes, we took a look and even had one of the levels up and running, but in the end we have decided to focus 100% on the PC first. Only after the game is released on PC we will go back and continue PS4 development.”

Hmmm. Well, I just want this to be the best game possible, so if that means that a staggered release schedule is what the developers have to work with, then so be it.
