Microsoft May Just Have Teased Its Own VR/Augmented Reality Project

And here... we... go...

aaaah

Sony has Morpheus. Facebook has Oculus Rift. But Microsoft so far has lacked its own VR project, and in the process, it has risked missing out on what might be the next big thing in consumer tech, just like it missed out on the smartphone revolution. In the last one year or so, we have received lots of indications that Microsoft is working on something– whether that something is virtual reality or augmented reality is something we haven’t been clear on, but we’ve known that something’s going on at Redmond.

Today, Microsoft dropped us the first hint as to what that might be at their Windows 10 event- they have shown their own take on VR, which shows us a sleek head mounted display that is absolutely nothing like those bulky headsets that Oculus have us wear. No, really, look at that image above- it looks great. The best part is, the entire experience appears to be directly translatable to AR as well, so potentially, anyone with a tablet (for example) could join in.

We don’t know much, since Microsoft didn’t confirm anything specific either way, but we will keep you posted on this as it develops.
