Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Explores Origins of Nazis’ Advanced Tech

Look for drunken dev team members voicing drunken Nazis as well (seriously).

Wolfenstein The Old Blood

MachineGames’ Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will serve as a prequel for The New Order, which released last year, and in a new blog post the developer has outlined what we can expect from the B film-esque shooter.

Senior producer John Jennings says there will be several gaps filled between both games. “We get to explore things that were only hinted at in New Order. We get to find out what the Nazis were up to, and reveal a little bit about how they actually got some of this advanced technology that let them win World War 2.

“It really is a prequel. The last scene of Old Blood is a couple of hours before the start of New Order in terms of the timeline, so it sets things up perfectly.”

You’ll learn more about Da’at Yichud technology and even come across the same super soldiers as in The New Order, only in much earlier stages, thus offering new ways to end them. Interestingly, there is also a nod to Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

There will be scene where B.J. Blazkowicz sneaks into a tavern with drunken Nazis. The kicker? The voices for the Nazis consist of development team members.

“It was a request from our audio director. The voices were all done by us. We got the lyrics a couple of days before and had to learn German. Several cases of beer were purchased a couple of hours before the session, to make sure our vocal chords were sufficiently lubricated.

“We were so bad performing it. Everyone was overlapping each other, getting the timing wrong. You couldn’t actually hear half the words half the time.”

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is out on May 5th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
