Sony to promote PS Move homebrew

Posted By | On 03rd, Mar. 2011

Sony have laid down the gauntlet for homebrew developers to take advantage of their motion control hardware. They are set to release an app through the PSN called Move.me that will grant open access to the Playstation Move hardware.

Sony have said that “we want to see what innovative applications programmers can create using the PS Move controller, the PS3 system, the PlayStation Eye camera and a PC.”

“Move.me is designed for academic researchers, university instructors, college students, programming hobbyists, and HCI developers. Show us how you can take the PS Move beyond traditional gaming and into areas such as: Games and tools that support kids’ physical fitness and nutrition; Kid-friendly programming interfaces for computer/technology classes or individual learning; Physical therapy and rehabilitation; Sports physiology or fitness training; Music and the creative arts.”

Move.me will be available this spring as an application download from the PlayStation Store. Until then 150 lucky chaps will be selected to test Move.me. Testing appears to be limited to the US.

The small print mentions a voucher, which suggests a charge for Move.me when it eventually releases.

Sony have also covered their backs by stating that “you may not attempt to hack or reverse engineer any code or equipment in connection with Move.Me.” I doubt this will stop ardent hackers though.

Thanks to Eurogamer for the info.
