While AMD has always made some great cards, they have been hamstrung by AMD’s perennial inability to actually provide decent software support- drivers and updates take forever to come, often remaining in beta for prolonged periods of time, and optimizations for new games require fixes and workarounds entirely engineered by the users.

AMD is looking at changing that, and the most visible change they have made to that end is the impending launch of the Raedon Software, a new software client that will help users handle and manage all software updates for their AMD hardware without issue. According to GamersNexus, each major update – likely once a year – will rollover to a new shade of red for sub-versioning identifiers of “Radeon Software.” AMD will also not require email registration to enable the download of the newest drivers. The entire interface has also been overhauled, to be far more user friendly, and fast as well.

AMD is also providing some high end enthusiast features, such as per game overclocking with individual profiles, and collectively, it is looking like the one area where AMD as lagged behind Nvidia the most in the last few years – software support – is something they are actively looking at addressing. Whether or not they follow up on this initial promise is something that remains to be seen, however.
