Kingdom Hearts 3

While we’re still not sure when Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 are going to hit store shelves, we are getting a trickle of information about the two titles including some specifics about how Final Fantasy 15’s physics are going to work when it comes to the wind blowing through characters’ hair and other items in the game’s world. During Siggraph Asia 2015, Square Enix Graphics R&D engineer Witawat Rungjiratananon had a lecture titled Physics Simulation R&D at Square Enix.

During this lecture, as Dualshockers reports, the engineer talked about new techniques for fast and high-detailed vertex-based simulation for cloth and hair, meaning that the simulation can be done smoothly for each vertex. The issue is that this particular technique works very well when it comes to wet materials but doesn’t work that well when it comes to dry items like hair. The company is working very hard to make sure the physics for the game is going to make it look as realistic as possible.

On the flipside, the goal for Kingdom Hearts 3 has never been realism, but rather the sheer and total fantasy of that particular game world. To that end, the game received brand new screenshot [see above] and it shows the main character we’ve seen in a number of other screens though in a completely new setting. This time around he’s sitting in some sort of a weaponized car shooting at some fun loving enemies, considering how he’s smiling. So what makes this fantastical? It’s the other person in the car, who is Donald Duck that draws the attention and gives us a better look at just what this game is going to be about. Both Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 are expected to be released in 2016 but we don’t have a release date.
