Forza 6 Director Defends Game’s Microtransactions

'They can be turned off.'

The addition of microtransactions to Forza Motorsport 6 recently has, obviously, been met with a fair degree of controversy- especially since the egregious microtransactions in Forza Motorsport 5 were the single biggest complaint that was leveled at the game.

But Forza Motorsport 6’s director, Dan Greenawalt, has taken to Twitter to defend their inclusion in the game, speaking in response to people who have called their addition to the game ‘sad.’ Greenawalt points out that Forza 6 was completely “designed, tuned, and tested 100 percent without [microtransactions],” and that, if they really do annoy the player or impede their player experience, they can be turned off entirely. In other words, Greenawalt believes that the implementation of microtransactions in Forza 6 is the least intrusive and cynical way possible.

Personally, I think the best way to go about this would have been to not have any microtransactions in the game to begin with- then again, with the game having failed at retail, maybe this was the only recourse for Microsoft and Turn 10 to recoup some of their investment into the game.
