Xbox Consoles Are Crucial To Our Success, Says Phil Spencer

But putting Xbox games on PC has its advantages too.

Xbox One Streaming to Windows 10

Even as Microsoft is doing a remarkable job at turning the Xbox One around, the very existence of the console is increasingly being called into question- with Microsoft stating that they now look at Xbox Live engagement numbers as their primary metric for success, and putting more and more of their games on PC as well, the question remains: why does one need an Xbox One at all?

Microsoft’s Xbox head Phil Spencer took to Twitter to handle some of these questions head on, which have started coming in again after the announcement that ReCore will be coming to PC as well. “We will work to make Xbox One the best console gaming exp we can make to justify purchase. Team is committed,” he said. “The console is critical to our success, now and in the future.”

At the same time, Spencer believes that there is a benefit in putting games on PC– some IPs can greatly benefit from something like that, which is why Microsoft will continue exploring which ones work best on PC as well as Xbox One.

Personally, true exclusivity seems to be all but dead these days, and neither Sony nor Microsoft really have too many games that aren’t at least shared with PC anyway. If Microsoft wants to put some of its games on PC as well, by all means, they can do so. I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong with that.
