Mass Effect Andromeda PS4 Pro Was Running At A ‘Custom’ Resolution

It's possible that it was using some kind of reconstruction methodology.

Mass Effect Andromeda

All of us were surprised when, in spite of all of Bioware’s insistence that we won’t get to see Mass Effect Andromeda until November now, they took the stage at Sony’s PlayStation Meeting keynote and debuted the world’s first Mass Effect Andromeda in game footage. True, it was early pre-alpha footage, and there was very little of it (plus, nothing actually happened in any of it), but still… it was new Mass Effect footage!

A lot of people have wondered how exactly the game was being rendered, too- it was not native 4K, naturally, since the PS4 Pro can’t handle that. Was it, then, upscaled? Speaking on Twitter, Bioware’s Johan Andersson said that it was neither native nor upscaled– but if it was nether of those, the implication is that it was using some kind of reconstruction technology, although Andersson refused to share any more details or comment on any of the speculation that his remark sparked. Reconstruction methodology isn’t exactly new as it has already been used in games like Quantum Break and Rainbow Six Siege.

Whatever the tech being used was, Andromeda looks great for now- I am reasonably confident the final game will end up looking even better. Mass Effect Andromeda launches on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in March 2017.
