Watch Dogs 2 Wiki – Everything You Need To Know About The Game

Watch Dogs 2 is an open world adventure game that centers on the player’s ability to hack into various machines and web databases in order to advance the story. This is a sequel to the 2014 release of the original Watch Dogs but features a brand new set of characters as well as a new setting.

The game is being developed and published by Ubisoft and will be released on the PS4 and Xbox One on November 15, 2016 with the PC version launching on November 29th.

Development

The development of Watch Dogs 2 really began shortly after the original game was released. The development team has long said they wanted to improve on the things that made the first game so unpopular among a certain section of players. In order to do this, the team started surfing websites where fans were laying out what they disliked about the game in 2014.

The team also did quite a bit more research into the “hacker” culture and says it has made strides to incorporate that into Watch Dogs 2. The team consulted with real hackers in order to make sure the designs and the missions, as well as the jargon was authentic. Ubisoft has also said this game will look better and run smoother than the original because it has been developed entirely on the current generation consoles, whereas the original Watch Dogs was also released on previous generations.

On June 8, 2016 the game was announced and it was also here Ubisoft announced the title would be coming in November. At Sony’s September PlayStation meeting it was announced Watch Dogs 2 will have PS4 Pro support. In early October the PC version of the game was pushed back and will be released on November 29, 2016.

Story

Watch Dogs 2 is a direct sequel to the original Watch Dogs. In this game, San Francisco has become the second city to install the system known as the ctOS system (central Operating System). The town does this despite the fact that Chicago had some rather difficult times with the system in the first game. While this system connects everyone and everything, it has its own problems. The system wrongly identifies this game’s new protagonist, Marcus Holloway who is a young and talented hacker from Oakland, as a criminal.

After realizing that he has been incorrectly tagged as a criminal, Holloway uncovers the bigger truth about this new security system and the danger it represents to average citizens. Because of this, Holloway teams up with the hacker group Dedsec as they all work to take down San Francisco’s version of this system, referred to as ctOS 2.0. The hackers are also working against the company that has designed and implemented the operating system. This company is called Blume.

Gameplay

Like the original, Watch Dogs 2 is an open world action-adventure game with stealth elements that is told through a third-person point of view. The game is set in a  fictionalized San Francisco and the game map is said to be more than twice as big as the original’s map of the fictionalized Chicago. Players can navigate the rather large map either on foot or by using vehicles. These vehicles can either be purchased or stolen, depending on how much the player wants to walk the line of legality while stopping short of that legality altogether when they go to hack anything and everything.

Driving and combat have been tweaked to be more responsive than in the original Watch Dogs and players can now shoot their weapons while they are driving. Marcus is also far more quick and agile than the previous iteration’s protagonist and he has the ability to parkour around the city.

When it comes to weapons, there are a number of choices players can pick. The hacker group that is central to the game has found a way to 3D print several different kinds of guns. Marcus also has his own specially designed weapon called the thunderball. This weapon is a billiard ball attached to a bungee cord. Players can hack into cars, into ATM machines and into the traffic system as well. Holloway will take down some of his enemies, as well as avoid the authorities by hacking into the system and changing the profiles of NPCs into those of criminals.

In addition to the single player story mode, there is also a multiplayer mode that has a couple of different kinds of play. Online players can simply navigate the online map alongside friends and the group can work to gain followers. There are also two online competitive modes. The first is called Online Invasions. This mode is similar to the first Watch Dogs in that a player invades another’s game and plants viruses on the Dedsec mainframe. That player must then escape before the original player finds and kills him.

Bounty Hunter is another mode that is activated if a player is creating too much chaos in their own world. Up to three other players can jump into this world and attempt to collect a bounty by stopping the original player.

Characters

Marcus Holloway is the protagonist that players of the game will control. He joins the hacker group Deadsec and that group features three other characters that will feature prominently in the game. The Wrench is a man who hides his face behind a mask that has LED lights geared to form different emojis. Sitara is a well educated hacker who made the move from Los Angeles to San Francisco because she hoped she would find a less hollow culture there. Frustrated that she didn’t she plies her skills with Deadsec. Josh is the final part of this team. While he is truly brilliant, he also has Aspergers and has some problems fitting into the group as a whole. His skills help with that issue.
