Kojima Was Locked in Room, Separated From Team During MGS5 Development – Keighley

In the mood to hate Konami further, especially given the rather acrimonious split it had with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima? The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley had some rather interesting insight on the matter and told Glixel about how Kojima couldn’t even communicate directly with his team while finishing Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Keighley noted that, “I haven’t talked much about that, but it was such a difficult time because he was going through a lot last year. The fact that he finished that game under those circumstances is just amazing. He was locked in a separate room on a different floor than his development team for the final six months of development. He couldn’t even talk to them – he had to talk through someone else. That’s how that game was finished.”

Even though Konami was a sponsor at last year’s awards, it barred Kojima from attending – a move which shocked Keighley and motivated him to speak out against it. As it stands, Kojima should be doing better, having started his own studio and developing Death Stranding for PS4 and PC. And yes, even got to attend this year’s ceremony, winning the 2016 Industry Icon Award.
