Crytek, the creator of CryEngine and developer behind recent VR titles like Robinson: The Journey and The Climb, is facing some serious issues. It apparently hasn’t paid some of its staff for almost six months now.
A Reddit user claiming to be a Crytek employee at the company’s headquarters stated that, “I’m not sure where else to turn at this point. This has happened in the past a few times, but never for this long. Management never gives anyone a heads up, and it isn’t clear to me if they are getting paid or even informed from the owners.
“The last time this happened we were told it would be the last time and yet it is happening again. Many of my co-workers moved from out of the country to work here and are unable to leave because they cannot afford to get back home due to their wages being withheld for so long.”
Though the higher-ups in the company are assuring workers of wages coming, many are afraid to say anything. “Upper management refuses to speak to any of us and our managers have no answers. We have never been apologized to.”
The issue isn’t confined to the company’s headquarters in Frankfurt alone. “This is in all of our offices as far as I can tell.” Let’s Play Video Games noted that Crytek Black Sea has employees that haven’t been paid for three months now and the studio is reportedly up for sale.
The situation is pretty similar to Crytek USA which shut down in 2014 followed lay-offs and unpaid wages. Crytek UK faced a similar situation before selling the Homefront series rights to Deep Silver and shutting down. Keep in mind that the Redditor hasn’t been verified so we’ll need to wait for more information in the coming weeks.
