Final Fantasy 15 Broke Even On Day One

Cue the victory fanfare.

Final Fantasy 15 had a long development cycle- ten years in development, one change of platforms, one change of directors, and one name change, before it was finally released. One might argue that, given the extensive amount of content and post launch support it is getting, the game’s development continues even now, after launch.

However, in spite of that protracted development cycle, it looks like the game managed to break even on day one itself. Speaking to DualShockers, Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata, who also directed the game, confirmed that Final Fantasy 15 broke even on development costs on day one- everything since then has just been gravy.

That is, in the end, great news. Final Fantasy 15 is a great, if flawed game- and it has been a pleasure to play it. It’s good to see that the market recognizes this, and is rewarding Square Enix in kind, too. Now let’s just hope the next one doesn’t take ten years…
