Publishers Cannot Afford To Ignore The PC Gaming Market, Platinum Games Says

'If it were up to us, we would put all of our games on PC.'

Platinum Games has finally released some games on PC this year (not counting the tie in games they did with Activision that launched for PC)- NieR Automata was a pretty good port, and the just launched PC port of the superlative Bayonetta (the game that put them on the map to begin with), has been a huge success for them, too.

Speaking to PC Gamer, Platinum has reflected on the significance of the PC gaming market, pointing out that it is increasingly important, and not something that publishers can ignore for much longer. They have said that if it were up to them, they would put all of their games on PC.

“The PC market is huge and can definitely not be ignored. We are absolutely aware of that, and we’ve always felt this way,” Platinum Games said. “We’ve always had a positive stance towards porting our titles to PC, but the decisions as to which platforms we release our games on, and which platforms are the main focus for the games we make are largely made by the publishers, so this is not something we can decide on our own.

“However, most third party publishers nowadays realize the PC should not be ignored, so I believe we should be able to become more actively involved in the PC market from here on out. If it were up to us, we’d port all of our games to PC, but it all depends on the publishers. We still feel strongly about putting more consideration into the PC market. If our current efforts prove successful, this will only make PC development more attractive.”

With PC ports becoming more and more common for most Japanese developers and publishers these days, let us hope that future games from Platinum do end up finding a home on PC alongside other consoles and handhelds, too.
