The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s First DLC Pack Detailed- Hard Mode, Trial of the Sword Challenge, and More

Unlock the true power of the Master Sword.

Nintendo announced that it would be supporting The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with two DLC packs over the year back in February. With the game now having been out for nearly two months, Nintendo has shared some more details on what to expect in the first DLC pack, which is scheduled for this Summer.

The DLC pack adds a new Trial of the Sword challenge, the Hero’s Path Mode, a hard difficulty mode, new armor, and more new content into the game. The Trial of the Sword challenge sounds incredibly intriguing- it has Link take on a gauntlet of enemies and trials, one after the other, without any break. Link starts off without any weapons or equipment, and must scavenge what he can, using only his wits to assist him. Completing this challenge apparently ‘awakens the true power of the Master Sword’- who knows what that means?

That apart, the Hero’s Path mode shows you where you have been on the map and where you have spent the most time, letting you figure out what areas may still be left unexplored. The harder difficulty mode levels up each enemy by one rank and gives them regenerating health, meaning you now need to be quicker on your feet to be able to take them on. There will also be a Travel Medallion that lets you fast travel to one custom location (at a time), and some new costumes.

It sounds like a pretty good expansion all around- now we just need to know when it will be available. You can only get it as part of the game’s Expansion Pass, which is available for $20 on the Nintendo eShop, for both the Wii U and Switch versions of the game. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on Switch and Wii U.
