Dynasty Warriors 9 Goes Open World, New Details Revealed

Grappling hooks, dynamic weather and much more.

Famitsu (via Gematsu) has a bunch of new information about Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors 9, the cult favourite crowd-brawling action title. A number of changes are inbound including an open world setting which the player will traverse via horseback (fast travel is still a thing so don’t worry).

Capturing castles is possible in the open world and you can now attack them from behind or even the high ground. Battles will now take place at different points on a map with main missions advancing players across time periods. Main missions will have a “high degree of difficulty” so be warned but ancillary missions exist to become strong on the side. Also, everyone gets a bow for long-range attacks this time.

New features also include context-sensitive actions depending on your environment like grappling hooks for climbing up walls and a dynamic weather system which changes up some missions. For instance, if it’s raining, you can use the low visibility for stealth.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is apparently 40 percent done and doesn’t have a release date yet. It will be coming to PS4 though.
