No Online Multiplayer In Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Ubisoft Confirms

Focus solely on single-player story.

The online multiplayer component was a big addition in 2010’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and it was actually surprisingly good. However, the Assassin’s Creed series hasn’t had an online multiplayer component for a while not, and it seems like it won’t be coming back in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Origins either.

Origins’ game director Ashraf Ismail was asked whether or not Origins will have an online multiplayer component during the game’s E3 Coliseum panel, and Ismail said that that won’t be the case. He stressed the fact that the game is very much a single player experience, with immense focus on the story they want to tell with the protagonist and the origins of the assassins brotherhood, and while there will be online functions and features related to the game’s campaign (which Ubisoft will speak about at a later date), there won’t be an online multiplayer component.

Given the fact that the entire combat system has received an overhaul in Origins, it makes sense that Ubisoft don’t want to include the typical Assassin’s Creed multiplayer. Their intentions to focus solely on the single player and the story they want to tell also has to be respected. That said, we do hope the online multiplayer component makes a comeback at some point in the franchise’s future.
