Project Cars 2 PS4 Hands-On Preview – This Game Is Out To Stun Players

What’s the biggest take away from Project Cars 2 from the developers at Slightly Mad Studios? Well, overall it’s a very similar game to the original game. But under the hood it’s completely revamped in every possible way. The original Project Cars was a huge success centered around its robust features and driving mechanics. It was a racing simulator with beautiful cars, amazing tracks, wonderful dynamic weather, and a good bit of customization involved. What felt good about the original Project Cars game are all back in the sequeland some things such as tire traction and road surface dynamics have been improved as well.

Project Cars started out as a series that focused heavily on details, and this one is no different. Car models have been completely rebuilt from the ground up in the sequel. Each car looks stunning and even better than the prequel’s. Smooth surfaces meet stunning physics with light reflections. As the cars turn around the surface, it’s immediately apparent that this game is out to stun.

" Tracks aren’t just roads you follow to win the race; these are stunning, almost dynamic feeling tracks that give feedback to the tires, and ultimately the entire vehicle when driving down them. "

But the revamped cars are not the only hot thing you’ll notice in Project Cars 2. Tracks are beyond beautiful this time around. The feedback from the tracks is dramatic. These aren’t just roads you follow to win the race; these are stunning, almost dynamic feeling tracks that give feedback to the tires, and ultimately the entire vehicle when driving down them. Not only the dynamics of the track and its temperate affect the tire, but aesthetically they’re pleasing as well. You can see the grains of rock in the asphalt during those tight turns, and the audience roaring in the backdrop.

Of course in any good racing game the momentum of the race should always steals the show. And it does for Project Cars 2, as well. Speed is the name of the game, but that doesn’t mean it was designed for everyone. Project Cars 2 is not a game you can just pick up and play; and I don’t think the creators were out to make a game like that either. The turns I took in my Honda Civic were rough and the skid outs were intense. If you’re new to racing games, it will take time to get going in this game before you become remotely good. This game isn’t Mario Kart and it isn’t setting itself out there to be. Turns require  precision and braking at the same time. If you don’t nail those angles down when pivoting into a turn, you’ll likely skid out and the racers behind you will show off how unforgiving they are.

"Customization has come a long way in Project Cars 2. That includes changing the dynamics of the game for any track at any time. From changing weather conditions to changing seasons, day and night cycles; almost everything can be modified this time"

Sound has always been one of those problems that we never really realize how big of a issue it is until the sequel comes out. One of the cool features of the original game was the realistic sound of each car racing down the track. Project Cars 2 has improvements in the sound department but they won’t standout unless you put both games side by side. But the overall impression of the cars echoing past the stands and grinding rubber on asphalt and dirt roads was fantastic.

Customization has come a long way in Project Cars 2. That includes changing the dynamics of the game for any track at any time. From changing weather conditions to changing seasons, day and night cycles; almost everything can be modified this time. Puddles form due to rain and can evaporate as well. So goes with snow. It’s almost mind blowing at times.

Overall Project Cars 2 is quite astonishing. As we found out, nearly ever aspect of the game has been revamped and completely overhauled. It’s impossible for any one person to just get into a race and figure out every fine detail that has gone into making this game an improvement over the last.

This game was previewed on the PlayStation 4.
