Turn 10 Studios has gone all out to improve the graphical quality of Forza Motorsport 7 on Xbox One, Xbox One S and the Xbox One X. That may sound strange but in an interview with OXM (via WCCF Tech), creative director Bill Giese noted that the game would have dynamic image-based lighting on all platforms.

However, for Xbox One S and Xbox One X, there would be dynamic HDR skies. Both of these features were seen in Forza Horizon 3. The Xbox One X (and obviously Windows 10 PCs) will have access to one exclusive feature however – dynamic cube mapping. This involves a cube map texture having six different 2D images or textures, instead of one with that remains static. This means the same scene is rendered six times to accommodate for each frame and thus isn’t possible on less powerful systems.

Other improvements noted by Giese include better particle effects and ambient occlusion techniques. Grass density has also been increased but Turn 10 also looked at improving the audio. Giese said that, “For all 700 cars the instrumentation clusters are going to rattle, windshield wipers and mirrors vibrate – it’s that feeling of the car at its peak. We’ve overhauled the audio for our driveline flex, so you can hear the car tearing itself apart. It can be scary, but it feels more alive and grounded than before.”

Forza Motorsport 7 releases on October 3rd for Xbox One and Windows 10 with Xbox Play Anywhere support offering cross-buy and cross-play functionality. The Xbox One X launches on November 7th for $499 with pre-order details to be revealed on August 20th at Microsoft’s Gamescom show.
