Remember roughly 4.5 years when Microsoft announced a TV series for Halo? One that was live-action, developed by Showtime and featured Steven Spielberg as an executive producer? We’ve heard roughly nothing about the series ever since and gone from transmedia being a major Xbox One strategy to the closure of Xbox Entertainment Studios and a tighter focus on games. Halo Nightfall (seen above) happened but it was fairly forgettable.
Spielberg’s series isn’t dead though, at least not according Showtime President and CEO David Nevins when speaking to TV Guide. Nevins said that, “[It] is absolutely still in development, still moving forward and I’m encouraged by what we’ve seen so far. It’s still live action, and it will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime.”
Nevins has only scripts on the same and couldn’t offer any more information on the actual show. Considering this is a project that was announced even before Halo: The Master Chief Collection, it seems highly unlikely to be anywhere near done at the moment.
In other news though, it may be a while before the next big first person shooter Halo arrives according to 343 Industries. Then again, the studio has promised something exciting is on the way this year so stay tuned for more information.
