Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Cloud’s Character Design “Closest To The Original”

As per Tetsuya Nomura.

A few weeks back, we reported on how Cloud’s character design in Final Fantasy VII Remake would be changing, and that the new design for the game’s protagonist had been greenlit by Tetsuya Nomura, who was the original designer as well. As it turns out, the new design for Cloud is actually going to be pretty faithful to the original.

In the same exhibition (the Final Fantasy “Farewell Stories” 30th Anniversary Exhibition over Tokyo) where screenshots for the new character design were revealed, Nomura also said that Cloud’s new look was “the closest one to the original [Cloud design] up until now”, as opposed to other times when he’s appeared in past Final Fantasy games, such as the PSP’s Crisis Core.

Nomura and Remake’s development lead Naoki Hamaguchi, who was also in attendance, also commented on how Cloud’s character in Final Fantasy VII was “dorky”, and while his character has been much more stark and sombre in other games, his portrayal in the upcoming Remake would be much more faithful to his first appearance.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is slated to launch on the PS4, however Square Enix are yet to announce a release date for the game. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage on the game.
