Project Octopath Traveler

A new trailer for Octopath Traveler, Square Enix’s Nintendo Switch exclusive RPG, has been released. Though it’s in Japanese, it does offer a look at two new playable characters and a number of other fundamental gameplay mechanics.

The two characters in question are H’annit and Therion. The former is a hunter who lives a lonely life in the woods and seeks to find her mentor along with a demon named “Red Eyes”. H’annit’s Path Action is Incite to attack with any animals she’s tamed. Her main weapon is a bow and her class lets her boost the critical hit chance of allies.

Therion, on the other hand, is a Thief. His past is mysterious and his Path Action “Steal” does exactly that – it steals items from people. Utilizing daggers in combat, Therion is also capable of stealing HP and SP from enemies.

Path Actions also get some new information. They’re essentially broken up into “Noble” and “Rogue” categories. The goal of Path Actions is usually the same but you go about it in different ways. Pursuing the Noble path means buying items, for instance, but the Rogue path means stealing them even if you get caught and suffer lower standing with other characters. Certain quests may also get locked out if your standing is lowered. Don’t worry – you can donate money to innkeepers to raise your standing back up.

Octopath Traveler is out on July 13th for Nintendo Switch. Are you looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments.
