On the day of the launch for Destiny 2’s Warmind DLC, Bungie sandbox lead Josh Hamrick apologized on behalf of the developer for letting fans down. The statement is noteworthy for being one of the very few times that Bungie actually apologized for its missteps with the sequel.

Hamrick was tweeting about being excited for the future of Destiny when a fan noted that the developer had “dropped the ball”. He responded that he was aware how the fan felt. “I’m sorry we let you down. We’re working our asses off to turn it around and bring the hobby back though. I feel like the last few updates have really started to change that and I believe the future is bright. I hope you join us.”

Though Destiny 2 director Luke Smith may have expressed some remorse over the direction over the game, Bungie has outright avoided apologies in the wake of many controversies. The XP throttling debacle, The Dawning’s microtransaction-hungry nature, missing features from Destiny 1, consumable shaders, tons of loot locked behind Eververse – the list goes on.

At the very least, Bungie is working to ensure that it gets back in fans’ good graces. With Warmind releasing on May 8th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, it remains to be seen if their efforts are worth it.
