The state of Sony’s E3 this year seems to suggest that games like Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part 2 are going to be the games that are used to sunset the PS4, and lead into the PS5- much like, say, the original Last of Us, along with Beyond: Two Souls, God of War: Ascension, and Gran Turismo 6 were used to sunset the PS3.
However, according to Michael Pachter, The Last of Us Part 2, at least, could end up coming out far earlier than anyone expects, and way earlier of the PS5 launch. “You know, Death Stranding, who knows when that will come out?” Pachter laughed, in an exclusive interview with GamingBolt. “That might be 2025. And I gotta say, that is the weirdest looking game I have ever seen. The Last of Us 2, those guys are really prolific, I’d say that game is coming out no later than 2019, and it could surprise us this year as well. Sony has been good.”
Pachter doubled down on his “by 2019” prediction for The Last of Us Part 2. “You never know, those guys surprised us the last time. They’re pretty prolific, they’re pretty competent, Naughty Dog. I don’t know when it is coming out, but it would surprise me if it came out later than 2019. All these guys are getting better at surprises, and I’m not sure how, because there are so many leaks, and so many things get leaked ahead of time… ”
As of right now, neither Death Stranding nor The Last of Us Part 2 (or even Ghost of Tsushima, for that matter) has any release date announced- hopefully, this is something that changes when these games are shown off extensively at Sony’s E3 presser this year.
