In a rather unsurprising move, Treyarch announced during its reveal event for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 that the PC version would be releasing on Blizzard’s Battle.net. There was no confirmation of a Steam version and given how Bungie’s Destiny 2 also released for PC through Battle.net, it seems unlikely.

Developed by Beenox, Black Ops 4 will be the first Call of Duty to release on Battle.net. This version will be its “own platform” and has been custom built for PC players  according to Treyarch co-studio head Mark Gordon. Blizzard’s lead programmer for Battle.net Aaron Ponoroff noted that the game would be “fully integrated with all of the social features on Battle.net.” This essentially translates to adding friends, chatting with them on Battle.net and so on.

Other PC-centric features include gameplay changes for weapon recoil, gunplay and the UI to better cater to keyboard and mouse players. How that will be explicitly handled hasn’t been confirmed. At least the PC version will have an uncapped framerate, 4K resolution and HDR support, Ultrawide monitor support and “great scalability options”.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be releasing for Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 12th.
