A lot of exciting new details have been revealed regarding the future of gaming at this year’s E3. Among other things, we also got to hear video game analyst Michael Pachter’s view regarding how the Xbox console is currently faring, in an interview with Geoff Keighley.

Pachter starts off by stating that he does not specifically care about consoles, but that he cares about games instead. Considering the fact that Microsoft announced 50 new titles during their E3 show, out of which “40 of them were impressive” and with a decent number of upcoming exclusives, surprises and world premieres, Pachter was quite impressed with their conference. He stated that Microsoft was able to capture the attention of the audience by announcing such a vast line-up of games.

Regarding the competition from Sony, Pachter states that it doesn’t matter who wins but he believes Sony made a mistake going for only first-party titles at their show (provided they have shut off 3rd party entirely which likely won’t be the case). Of course, in the long run, this does not mean that Sony has lost to its competition or it will lose sales. It just shows that the team behind Xbox is trying to show that their focus is mainly on great games, and not just on exclusives.

However, Pachter also clarified that even though he doesn’t think Sony will be showing off third pary games, it is something that remains to be seen. However, Microsoft showed off so many multiplatform games including non-exclusive world premiers at its presser, so if those third parties want to make a splash they have already done so during the event yesterday. This is precisely why he thinks Sony’s E3 presser will focus only on 1st party games.

We will see if Pachter is right and whether Sony will be able to match up with Microsoft’s great E3 show and whether it will have third party announcements.
